Puerto Vallarta keeps breaking all tourism records, remaining one of Americans’ favorite destinations in Mexico.

According to recent data, Puerto Vallarta International Airport is now visited by almost 17 thousand people per day!

These are the highest numbers recorded since 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic.

The numbers

Positive numbers have already been registered in October, when Cryshtian José Amador Lizardi, director of the Puerto Vallarta International Airport, declared: “October is the beginning of the winter season and the growth we registered is very good in both the national and international markets and that shows us what the beginning of this period will be for the International Airport.”

It is now known that compared to last year, the Puerto Vallarta Airport has registered a growth equal to 10%!

Experts are now saying that this airport will reach 7 million passengers by the end of the year, but these are just predictions, and everything still needs to be confirmed.

However, the numbers seem to be positive. But why do people keep choosing Puerto Vallarta for their holidays?

Why do people keep flocking to this destination?

There are several factors leading Americans to choose this destination over and over again. One of these is surely the high number of luxury resorts located in the area.

Plenty of all-inclusive and five-star hotels can be found in Puerto Vallarta and its vicinity, making this one of the top luxury destinations in Mexico.

Massive hotel corporations are well aware of this, and this is the main reason why every year, new humongous buildings are being built in the area.

Just to give an example, only a few days ago, it was announced that the new Six Senses Xala will open its doors to the public in 2026. This massive resort will be located on the stunning Jalisco coastline and will feature 51 suites.

Of course, luxury resorts are only one of the many reasons that bring so many tourists to this little paradise every year. The many activities offered in Puerto Vallarta are surely one of the other key factors.

Here tourists can choose among a vast choice of experiences, such as taking a unique tequila tasting tour in Jalisco.

Not by chance, Puerto Vallarta is considered by many the gateway to the tequila-producing region of Jalisco, meaning that visitors can embark on a unique journey to discover how this popular drink is produced by visiting local distilleries while testing different varieties of tequila.

For those who prefer to immerse themselves in unspoiled Mexican nature, there are several hidden gems and lovely areas worth visiting.

For instance, the Marietas Islands are home to the popular Hidden Beach. This place is only reachable by boat and is characterized by crystal-blue waters and unique rock formations.

Lastly, animal lovers cannot miss their chance to see the many whales reaching Puerto Vallarta every year.

These gentle giants approach the Puerto Vallarta coasts at the beginning of the winter putting an end to their long journey from the Arctic.

Here, they make the most out of the warm waters typical of this area to then leave again for the north in March.

Several operators in the area organize day tours to go see these stunning mammals, giving visitors a once-in-a-lifetime experience they will remember for life.

On top of this, whales are so common in Puerto Vallarta that some tourists even managed to see them jumping outside of the water from their hotel room!

Lastly, American tourists tend to choose Puerto Vallarta for their holidays due to its high safety levels.

Unlike many other areas of Mexico where safety can be a huge concern, here tourists can simply relax and enjoy their holiday in complete tranquility.

The local government is constantly trying its best to increase the safety levels of its territories to keep both tourists and locals alike safe.

This is mainly done because most of the inhabitants in this area live out of tourism. This means that if safety levels were to drastically decrease, many tourists would probably decide to opt for another destination, causing an economic crisis in the municipality.
