Several reports have recently demonstrated how Puerto Vallarta remains one of Mexico’s most popular destinations, with plenty of tourists arriving here on a daily basis.
This trend was confirmed by the latest data showing how this municipality has reached a hotel occupancy rate of almost 100% during the Christmas weekend.
According to experts, Puerto Vallarta registered an 85% occupancy since midweek, and similar numbers are expected for New Year’s Eve.
The numbers
Commenting on these positive numbers, Christian Preciado Cázares, the Director of Tourism of Puerto Vallarta, said:
“None of this would be possible if it were not for the enormous support and effort that the municipal president of Puerto Vallarta, Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez, provides to the Tourism Directorate, which has always entrusted us with providing all support to the activities in the port.”
According to Christian Preciado Cázares, the vast majority of the hotels and resorts in Puerto Vallarta reported an occupancy rate between 85% and 90%, incredibly high stats! “Some hotels had 100% of their accommodation capacity,” said Christian Preciado Cázares.
He later added that similar numbers are expected for New Year’s Eve; however, the demographic will probably be different.
While during the Christmas holidays, most hotels welcomed families, experts are now expecting more groups of friends for this upcoming festivity.
“For this weekend, which will celebrate the arrival of 2024, a full house is expected. (…) Tourism (will be) different, because at Christmas, there were more families than there (will be) at New Year’s,” commented Christian Preciado Cázares.
He later added that while tourists seem to arrive from all over the world, the two countries with the highest numbers of visitors right now are the USA and Canada. But why do people keep flocking to this destination?
Great Beaches
One of the main attractions leading so many tourists to choose Puerto Vallarta for their holidays is the high number of breathtaking beaches located here.
From Boca de Tomates to Playa de Oro, Los Tules, and Las Glorias, the options are endless.
Many of these beaches are also great for those wanting to try out water sports such as surfing and kitesurfing while also providing tourists with the option of enjoying the many beach clubs located on their shores.
Whether you want to sip a refreshing cocktail, play a beach volleyball match, or simply swim in the ocean to release all the stress accumulated throughout the year, Puerto Vallarta’s beaches are surely a great choice.
Authentic Mexican culture
Puerto Vallarta is also the perfect place to experience the most authentic Mexican culture. For instance, here tourists will have the chance to join a tequila tour to learn how this world-renowned beverage is produced while trying a few different varieties.
On top of this, Puerto Vallarta is located at a close distance from a variety of small towns where tourists will be able to familiarize themselves with the laid-back Mexican lifestyle typical of small villages.
Some of the most popular towns in the Jalisco municipality include San Sebastián, El Tuito, Mascota, and Talpa de Allende.
Plenty of attractions
Last but not least, Puerto Vallarta is an incredibly lively city with plenty of things to do every day. Couples here can enjoy a romantic walk along the Malecon Boardwalk, explore the Romantic Zone neighborhood and indulge in some shopping in one of its many boutiques, or get lost in the local botanical gardens.
Nature lovers can head to the Los Arcos Marine Park or El Salado Estuary to enjoy long hikes or try to spot local animals.
Lastly, it’s important to remember that Puerto Vallarta is particularly known for its vibrant nightlife. With plenty of bars and nightclubs to choose from, this is the ideal destination for friends wanting to spend some time together to level up their friendship.
This destination has also been awarded the “Best LGBTQ+ Beach Destination” at the LGBTQ+ Travel Awards Mexico 2023, making this one of the best Mexican cities for members of the LGBTQ+ to enjoy their holidays in complete safety.
