If you are planning a visit to this spectacular destination, you are in luck.
Puerto Vallarta is experiencing a rise in popularity and a remarkable 13% growth in its flight industry compared to 2022.
Let us take a look at the reasons behind this growth.
The Sky’s the Limit
Puerto Vallarta has always been the perfect destination for beachgoers and adventurers looking for a piece of tropical paradise.
Vibrant culture, breathtaking natural beauty, and warm hospitality draw in visitors year-round.
From January to August 2023, the Puerto Vallarta International Airport welcomed 13.2% more passengers compared to the same period the year prior.
These are not just statistics but a testament to Puerto Vallarta’s growing popularity as a travel destination.
The aviation industry plays a crucial role in the overall growth of tourism in Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit.
A recent report released by the Grupo Aeroportuatio del Pacifico (GAP), the Pacific Airport Group, reaffirms this.
From January to August this year, passenger traffic at the international airport increased by 13.2% compared to the same period in 2022.
According to the GAP report, at the shared airport serving Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit, a total of 4,708,000 passengers were mobilized from January to August this year, compared to 4,160,000 during the same period in 2022.
So, what is behind this significant surge in flights to Puerto Vallarta?
A Perfect Combination
One critical factor playing a role is the recent elevation of Mexico to the highest aviation safety status by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
With Mexico regaining Category 1 status, expanded air services and routes between Mexico and the United States are now possible.
U.S. airlines can once again market and sell tickets for flights operated by Mexican carriers under their own brand names and designator codes.
The GAP emphasized that the volume of available seats during August 2023 increased by 10.7% compared to August 2022.
The occupancy rate also rose from 78.9% in August 2022 to 81.4% in August 2023.
It is an impactful and positive development that benefits travelers as it increases direct flights and connectivity between the U.S. and Mexico.
A Hub of Connectivity
The Puerto Vallarta Airport now offers direct connections to an impressive array of 40 international destinations and 12 domestic routes.
These new flights not only make it easier for international travelers to reach this beautiful destination, but they also cater to the ever-expanding domestic tourism market.
Vanessa Pérez Lamas, the Secretary of Tourism for Jalisco, recognizes the vital role that air connectivity plays in the region’s tourism sector.
The combined efforts between the Mexican government, local agencies in Puerto Vallarta, the Secretariat of Tourism (Secturjal), and various airlines have successfully strengthened air travel and led to the current aviation boom.
A Destination on the Rise
As travelers set their sights on Puerto Vallarta, they can look forward to more choices, greater accessibility, and increased convenience.
Whether you are planning a relaxing getaway, a beach family vacation, or a solo adventure, this beautiful region is now more accessible than ever before.
With its turquoise waters, stunning beaches, vibrant culture, and welcoming vibes, Puerto Vallarta has always been a popular destination.
But with this year’s surge in flights, it is also embracing convenience and accessibility.
So, pack your bags, book your tickets, and get ready for an unforgettable experience in Puerto Vallarta.
Whether you are a first-time visitor or returning to a favorite destination, Puerto Vallarta is waiting to welcome you with open arms.
